Who We Are

urbz was founded in 2008 in Mumbai by Rahul Srivastava, Geeta Mehta and Matias Echanove. We are now a collective of urban researchers and practitioners based in various parts of the world.

Three Ways of Doing:A Collaborative Design Workshop to create streets for everyone

urbz, in collaboration with @chaal.chaal.agency and @_resdochao_, hosted a collaborative symposium on Friday, November 15th, showcasing our recent projects and exploring diverse methodologies in participatory urbanism.

The event brought together practitioners from various architectural backgrounds to examine and challenge conventional approaches to public space design.

The program began with presentations highlighting our organizations' distinct co-design approaches and commitment to community engagement. Speakers emphasized the importance of understanding community needs and aspirations while deconstructing traditional architectural narratives.

Following the presentations, participants engaged in a hands-on design workshop, reimagining street spaces through collaborative exercises. Using simple materials—stationery and newspaper cuttings—teams co-created visual representations of inclusive public spaces. The workshop demonstrated how creative constraints can spark innovative solutions for inclusive urban design.

The event concluded with a critical discussion where practitioners from all three organizations shared their experiences, sources of inspiration, and strategies for navigating policy challenges in participatory urban design.

This exchange offered valuable insights into the practical realities of community-centered architecture.This engaging and insightful event marks the beginning of an ongoing dialogue about participation in urban spaces.

🏘️ Dans le cadre du projet Rue de la Conversation, initié par l’association @iciconversation dans le quartier de la Porte Montmartre, Paris 18e, urbz a proposé Conversations de quartier : une série d’ateliers participatifs dans l’espace public.
L’un de ces ateliers comprenait une installation participative autour d’une carte évolutive intitulée « Le monde est mon quartier, le quartier est mon monde ».

One of these workshops included a participatory installation based around an evolving map entitled « Le monde est mon quartier, le quartier est mon monde » ("The world is my neighbourhood, the neighbourhood is my world").

Join us on Friday, 15th November at 4 pm for a series of short talks by *CCA, R/C, and URBZ* on their recent works exploring how co-design processes, innovative tools, and a range of perspectives can transform public spaces. Following the talk, participants will take part in a collaborative mixed-media workshop to sketch, map, and re-imagine streets that prioritize accessibility, diversity, and community needs.
