Delta V: participatory workshop in Versoix Geneva

October 13-15, 2017

The Municipality of Versoix and the Office of urbanism of the state of Geneva and urbz, invite the residents of Versoix  and young professionals in the fields of design, art, anthropology, journalism, architecture, urban planing to think about the future of the site known as ‘Lachenal – Degallier’ which is a triangle formed between the Versoix cemetery, the rail tracks and the villas along the Louis Dégallier road

This site has been in a development zone since the 1960’s but none of the proposed plans have managed to convince all inhabitants till date. The latest local development plan (PLQ) was rejected by 63% of the votes in 2014.

The 15,000 m2 (approx.) site in question is a great opportunity to create a new area in the neighbourhood which includes public spaces, new housing, commerce and services. This could enhance the quality of life of the local residents as well as the inhabitants of Versoix.

It is now a question of learning from previous urban mistakes, imagining the best of scenarios, relying on a strong knowledge of the context and integrating the aspirations of the actors most concerned – local residents, house-owners and future users.

The city of Versoix and the urban planning office have given a mandate to urbz to lead a participatory process which allows everyone involved to express themselves and contribute to the future plan, while taking into consideration the feasibility of the project.

To this end, urbz, along with the the Municipality of Versoix and the Office of urbanism of the state of Geneva is organising three days of workshops, discussions, exchanges and activities for the people of Versoix, open to all.

The purpose of this event is to identify the existing issues, bring out the potential of the site and produce guidelines for a new local development plan.
