Carl grew up in the Chicago area and became interested in cities at a young age. He spent countless days riding trains and taking in Chicago's magnificent architecture. After moving to California, he decided to pursue a formal education. Carl holds a bachelor's degree in geography from UC Berkeley and a master's degree in urban governance from Sciences Po, Paris. In 2018, he interned at urbz Mumbai for three months, and researched the impact of Mumbai's new metro on residents of homegrown neighbourhoods.
