I am a student at the Institut d’Urbanisme Grenoble (urban planning school – France), working toward my master’s degree as a freelance journalist. I am seeking an internship for this summer 2010, and while researching opportunities in the field of sustainable development and green building I found that your organization works on sustainable urban development. I am writing to inquire about the internship opportunities with URBZ.
My work background and coursework have supplied me with many skills and an understanding of efficient methods to investigate research questions:
    • I work as a freelance journalist for local newspaper and websites. I am familiar with researches and publication works. Toward my work I have gained strong working skills and I have learned managing time and work in an efficient way.
    • I am fluent in English as toward my work I write at least one article in English every week (I obtained the TOEFL and the First Certificate of Cambridge). Also I have already been living abroad as an exchange student. I spend one year at the University Of Technology in Sydney (Australia) and back in France I have graduated with a Bachelor of Geography in June 2009. I also graduated with the London School of Journalism summer intensive course in August 2009.
    • I am currently studying at the Institut d’Urbanisme Grenoble, doing a master degree in urban planning and housing in developing countries. I am very interested in sustainable development and climate change issues indeed I worked on how planners respond to climate change for my latest research assignment.
I believe I have the enthusiasm and knowledge that make me a strong candidate. I would be available this summer, from June 2010 until September 2010.
Please see my resume for additional information on my experience.
I can be reached anytime via email at claire.boulange@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to reading from you about this internship opportunity.
    Sincerely,

    BOULANGE Claire

  12. Rochelle Says:

    Dear URBZ,

I am writing on behalf of my team, a group of students representing India and North America, studying Sustainable Development/Business and Finance at HEC Paris.

We came up with a plan to end food insecurity for 200 million people living in urban slums. Now we want to put that plan into action, starting in India, in Dharavi.

A friend of ours from India was familiar with your work, and pointed us in your direction. After discovering more about your work in Dharavi, we love what you do and immediately wanted to get in touch with you.

We wanted to get in touch with you for two reasons. First, we entered our solution into a business competition, the Hult Prize. Through the competition, we could win $1 million in seed capital to actually start our business. Second, despite what happens with the Hult Prize, we intend to move forward with our business plan, and would love, at some point and if you were interested, to pick your brain about your experiences working in Dharavi. We are sure you’ve accumulated a unique set of insights only possible due to your work with the people, on the ground.

You may be wondering what our idea is. We aim to empower those living on small, volatile incomes by giving them access to a financial institution, and by combining this financial institution with food purchases and credits in a way that simultaneously improves their access to food today and in the future.

If you’re curious to learn more, you can watch our short, 3 minute video explaining our concept, by finding us – “Feed Your Future” – via the link below.

    https://www.facebook.com/hultglobalcasechallenge?v=app_253961071406636&app_data=entry_id%3D22763402%26gaReferrerOverride%3D

If you think this is an idea business idea worth exploring, it would be incredibly humbling if you could vote for us in the competition, and encourage those around you who may also be interested in the idea to vote too. Voting is easy, but does require Facebook. Simply follow the link above, find “Feed Your Future”, and click Vote!

We really think we can make a positive impact in Dharavi and in slums around the world, and would love the opportunity to try. We need as many votes as possible in order to move to the next stage in the competition, and we only have until May 12.

We would love to hear back from you with any feedback or questions you may have, and thank you in advance for any support you may be able to offer.

Best wishes for your own work,
Rochelle and the Feed Your Future team
